Dr. Young graduated from Morgan State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1962. In addition to being Captain of the Varsity Football Team, he was a member of the Pre-Medical Club, Chemistry Club, Canterbury Club, Kappa Alpha Psi and graduated as a Commissioned Officer, Second Lieutenant – U.S. Army.
He graduated from Howard University’s College of Medicine with his M.D. degree in 1966 and began his internship at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. After completing his military duties, which included Vietnam as a Major, he returned to Sinai Hospital to complete his training as an Assistant Resident and Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. As a board certified internist in group practice in Baltimore, he was on the staffs of Sinai Hospital, Lutheran Hospital, Provident Hospital (where he was Chief of the Department of Medicine) and Johns Hopkins Hospital (where he was assistant professor). He was also on the faculty at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Young was a member of the Maryland Commission on Medical Discipline and a consultant to the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation of the Maryland State Department of Education. He authored several articles that appeared in various medical journals and was a member of the American College of Physicians, Medical Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland, Baltimore City Medical Society, Monumental City Medical Society and Society of Internal Medicine, Maryland Affiliate.
As a vestryman at St. James Episcopal Church, Executive Board member of the Patrons Club at McDonough School, member of Morgan State’s Varsity “M” Club, Sigma Pi Phi, Chi Delta Mu and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternities, Dr. Young continued to give back to his community.
