Elmore “Pepper” Harris was probably Morgan’s fastest football player during his era, but was better known for his speed in track.
“Pepper” won many great track victories ranging from the 100-yard dash to the 440-yard dash. In addition he was a champion of the 100-yard high hurdles and the 220-yard low hurdles.
“Pepper” proved to be Morgan’s first National track champion and thus defeated the famous Claude “Buddy” Young and the great Herb McKinley, two of the country’s very best track stars.
