Ernest Wayman Garrett Ernest Garrett was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey and was a graduate of Central High School.

“Ernie”, as he was known by his friends and teammates, enrolled in Morgan in 1951.

“Ernie” was a brilliant student and just as adept at the game of basketball. During his four years at Morgan, “Ernie” was selected four times as a forward to the CIAA First Team in Basketball. “Ernie” led his team in scoring all four seasons and was the leading scorer in the conference for 1951, 1952, and 1953.

“Ernie” had an uncanny ability in dribbling and possessed unmatched ‘floormanship’. He ranks up at the top with other Morgan stars of earlier eras, such as the late “Lanky” Jones, “Rapp” Wheatley, and “Pinky” Clark who were members of Morgan’s Dream Team.

“Ernie” was an honor student for all four years. He finished fifth in his graduating class. He received his medical degree from Howard University and specializes in Gynecology and Obstetrics.

“Ernie” is a practicing physician in his home state of News Jersey.

"Ernie” holds many positions in civic and community organizations in Essex County, New Jersey.

He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Beta Kappa Mu Honor Society, the Varsity “M” club, the Newark Board of Education and many more organizations. In addition to his private practice, “Ernie” is an Associate Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Jersey Medical College.
