Eugene Allen Simms was born on October 31, 1951 in Washington, D.C to his late parents Norma and George. In his early life, Eugene was an accomplished student and athlete. He attended Cardozo Senior High School, where he first earned the moniker, “Superman” Simms, for his feats on the football field.

Eugene attended and graduated from Morgan State University, where he played linebacker for the Bears. During his career, he earned 2nd team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)

honors as a freshman, playing the position of a linebacker. In the years 1972-1974, he was selected to the All-MEAC 1st team. In 1973, he was named MEAC Defensive Player- of-the-Year, by the Associated Press as Consensus All-American Linebacker. In 1973 and 1974 he was selected as Morgan State College Defensive Player-of-the-Year and is listed as one of the MEAC’s Top 50 All-Time Football Players. Eugene was also named to Dean’s List on three occasions. Eugene went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education from Towson University.

Eugene was an entrepreneur. In the 1990’s, Eugene owned and operated a small grocery store in Baltimore and a restaurant in Annapolis, MD with his wife Bridget. Eugene was also a public servant. Over the course of his life he

served as a teacher in Washington, D.C., a police officer in Prince George’s County, and a correctional officer with the State of Maryland. Eugene retired from employment in 2016.

Eugene was a kind-hearted man who lived a life devoted to others. Eugene transitioned to his heavenly home on June 28, 2020. Eugene believed deeply in the value of education and hard work. Eugene trumpeted these values to all he knew. Eugene is survived by his four children: Antoine, Whitney, Eugene, and Corey; his sister, Ruby; his nieces, Vanessa and Deborah; and his nephew, Eugene.
