Georganna “Georgie” Showell Cottman Georganna Cottman, a native of Whalesville, Maryland, is the youngest of the five children of Henry and Viola Showell. She attended high school in Salisbury, and graduated from Morgan in 1950.

“Georgie” was the most outstanding female basketball player from 1946 to 1950, building a fine reputation as the school’s greatest rebounder. She executed the pivot play exceptionally well, rating as a sharp passer. A durable player who liked to drive for the good inside shot, she usually scored in double figures. During her last two years at Morgan she was elected captain of the basketball team. She participated in the dance group and performed as a majorette with the marching band.

Georganna graduated from Morgan with a B.S. degree in Physical education. She earned her master’s degree from Frostburg, MD., “Georgie” has been teaching for 21 years, 17 of which have been with the Talbot County Board of Education in Easton, MD. She has received numerous awards on the local, state, and national levels for her participation in and contributions to the fields of education and recreation. A member of many organizations related to her field, she also holds the distinction of being the author of “A Guide to Contract Teaching in Physical Education.”

Currently resides in Westover, Maryland.
