George “Choo Choo” Duffie Rooks, from White Plains, New York was a hard charging 215-pound bundle of shear back-breaking power that made Morgan opponents tremble.
He was “class”, spelled with a capital “C” - During his junior year George toted the ball 99 times for 927 yards, and amazing average of 9.2 yards per carry. No better man could be found to round up the stellar All-Star aggregation than George Rooks in the 1949 All-American Team.
George was All-CIAA for 3 years, All-America for 3 years, and the most valuable player in 1950.
Rooks was considered by many of his peers as the daddy Bear of them all. He was a coach’s dream. Not content with starring on the offensive he backed up the Morgan line with viciousness that one found hard to believe.
“Choo Choo” as his teammates called him, was a dedicated player who loved the game and enjoyed running over opponents leaving a wave of crumbling bodies as he penetrated the enemy’s area.
George is a Police Lieutenant in the city of White Plains, and is the Detective Sergeant in charge of the White Plains Police Department Youth Division and Police Community Relations Division.
