Howard Lee Cornish is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Baltimore City College. After graduating from City, Cornish enter Morgan State College in 1962.

Cornish joined the basketball team, where he became one of Morgan’s all-time leading scorers. He played a big role in helping Morgan stay in the win column.

Cornish was noted for his tremendous twists and feints on offense and defense. He was a prolific scorer although basically a back-court man. His hustle in setting up plays was outstanding. His heads-up play wrecked the enemy time and time again. Cornish paced himself well and could go at top speed without losing efficiency. He was an unusually fine foul shooter, top scorer who clicked with clutch points which were scored from the most impossible angles, a crowd pleasing ball-hawk and a very good basketeer.

Cornish was named twice to All-State teams: 1964 and 1965. While at Morgan, Cornish joined the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, was a Student Government Senator, and participated in Intramural tennis, swimming and track teams. Cornish received Promethean Kappa Tau award for academic honors in 1962-1963.

Graduating from Morgan in 1966 was just a start for Cornish. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision of Secondary Schools.

Currently Cornish is employed as a teacher of Mathematics at Lemmel Junior High School in Baltimore, Maryland. He is also an assistant basketball coach at the Community College of Baltimore. He also teaches mathematics at Bay College on a part-time basis.

Cornish’s family includes his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Howard L. Cornish, Sr. (Althea), his wife, Jacquelyn, and his son Andre.

Cornish belongs to the Varsity “M” club and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
