Irvin “Monk” Locust
Irvin “Monk” Locust is a native of Baltimore, Md. and a graduate of Dunbar High School. “Monk” attended Morgan from 1949-1953. he played end on the varsity football team for four years. He made the All-CIAA team in 1952 and was elected co-captain of the 1952 teams.
“Monk” was considered a great pass-rusher and spent much of his time in the enemy’s backfield dragging down enemy passers and blocking punts. “Monk” was a very fast end who could run the end-around play with the best.
“Monk” was the recipient of the outstanding Athletic Award presented by the Pi Omega Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. In 1972 he was elected o Dunbar High School’s Hall of Fame.
“Monk” now resides in Baltimore County and is currently a coach at Dunbar High School in football.
