J. Laws Nickens Laws Nickens was born in Virginia. He attended Douglass high school here in Baltimore. He entered Morgan in 1938 and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1941.
“Nick” was Morgan’s stellar football center from 1938 to 1941. An outstanding performer, deliberate and consistent, he was a superb blocker with few superiors as an accurate snapper at center. “Nick” was a hard driving player with intense emotion, a born leader, who inspired his teammates to overcome innumerable obstacles. He was elected co=captain of the football team in 1940, selected as All-CIAA center from 1940 to ’41 and was Afro-American honorable in 1940.
Laws Nickens graduated from Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry with a DDS degree in 195-. He is currently in private practice here in Baltimore City. He is a member of the NAACP, the Urban League, Advance Federal Savings and Loan Association Advisory Board, Baltimore Academy of General Dentistry, Baltimore City and Maryland State Dental Association, Union Baptist Church, and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
