John David Bethea John D. Bethea, a native Baltimorean, attended Baltimore City College. He entered Morgan in 1960 and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor’s degree.
John was one of Morgan’s super track stars; A recipient of many track awards and national honors. In he CIAA, he was the 440 intermediate hurdles champion 1963 and ’64; high hurdles champion in 194; IC4A champion high hurdler in 1964; Penn Relays Mile Relay champion in 1963, and all Eastern champion in 1962. His efforts helped Morgan to remain a track power in the tradition of the great Rhoden, LaBeach, Tyler and Brown.
John has pursued graduate studies a Coppin State College, Towson State and Morgan State Universities. He received recognition for outstanding service during the riots of 1968, while serving with the Maryland National Guard. He also served as the president of the Baltimore Teachers Union.
