John “Squeaky” Eubanks is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Dunbar High School, where he was a four-letter athlete. He won his letters in Baseball, where he was an all-City second baseman for three years; in Boxing, where he was the winner of four Golden Gloves; and in Football and Basketball.

He was coached by William “Sugar” Cain. “Squeaky” was also an honor student while at Dunbar.

“Squeaky” came to Morgan in September 1949; because of his small stature, he knew that he wouldn’t make the football team, so he turned to Boxing.

“Squeaky” was considered a credit to amateur boxing on the college level. He was a skillful tactician and a superb boxer. He had great style. “Squeaky” won 32 Boxing bouts while at Morgan. He was undefeated and untied. He was recognized by the CIAA as the undefeated lightweight champion in four consecutive years; 1949, 1950, 1951, and 1952.

It was said that pound for pound, “Squeaky” was the best fighter in his weight class. “Squeaky” was an honor student during his junior and senior years at Morgan. He was known for his winning smile and for his beautiful voice.

After leaving Morgan, “Squeaky” was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army Paratroopers. He served for five years, earning the rank of 1st lieutenant.

During his Army stay, he coached nine all-Army boxing champs and two Olympic champions.

After his separation from the service, “Squeaky” worked as a Recreation Center Director for six years, held numerous other positions and is now currently a Physical Education teacher and coach at the Maryland Training School for Boys in Baltimore. He also owns his own insurance company, after being the first Black to graduate from Nationwide’s Insurance Agency.

“Squeaky” is a member of the Varsity “M” Club, Prince Hall Masons, and Pride of Towson Lodge #84 Elks.
