Lancelot "L.C." Thompson

An outstanding broad jumper and sprinter, "L.C." was born in Jamaica, West Indies. he attended Cornwall College in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He enrolled in Morgan in 1949 and graduated in June of 1952.

A dedicated, superb athlete, "Lance" was a perfectionist. He believed in practicing no matter how cold or rainy. In 1950, representing Jamaica in the Pan-American Olympics at Guatemala, he ran on the 400 meter relay team and placed in the broad jump.

in 1951, he won the CIAA high jump, broad jump, and was a member of the sprint relay team, which was composed of Rhoden, Bragg and LaBeach. In 1952, he won the Penn Relay broad jump, the 100 meter dash at the Seton Hall Relay, and came in second in the 4x100 meter relay at Penn State. he also placed fourth in the NCAA Meet at Berkley and fifth in the AAU Meet in Long Beach, California, jumping 24 feet 5 inches in the Meet.

"L.C." was an honor student. He was a member of the National Scientific Honorary Society, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Who's Who in Administration, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, an active member of the "M" Club, plus many more organizations too numerous to list.

Thompson earned his Ph.D. degree and was Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Toledo. He served on the Mayor's Executive Committee on Alcoholism, the Board of Trustees of the Better Business Bureau, the Toledo Development Committee and other organizations. He is a Life Member of the NAACP and on the Board of Directors of Kiwanis International.
