Martin H. Cruise is from Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Douglas High School. In September of 1956 Martin enrolled in Morgan State College. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree, Martin went on to matriculate at Coppin State College in Baltimore Maryland, whereby he received his Master of Education Degree in Special Education in May, 1971. He also attended Towson State College; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill for Counselors training in Mental Retardation; and the University of Virginia.

In his sophomore year, Martin Cruise won his first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association One Meter Diving Championship in 1958. In 1959, Martin won the C.I.A.A. One meter Division Championship again. Needless to say, being one of Coach Stewart Brooks’ stellar and premiere divers who was consistently an excellent diver, Martin went on the following year, 1960, and scored a triple and double feat by winning the C.I.A.A. One Meter Championships three years in a row and also won the C.I.A.A. Three Meter Diving Championship. Martin was also Co-Captain of Morgan State’s swimming team the year of 1959-1960.

As a student, Martin Cruise a member of the ROTC Officers’ Club. Upon receiving his ROTC Commission in the Army he was Company Commander as a First Lieutenant in the Infantry at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Martin has worked for the Department of Recreation, Baltimore, Maryland from 1963-1964. He was a teacher at Rosewood Center, Owings Mills, Maryland from 1964 to 1967, working his way up to Rehabilitation Counselor, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation until 1972. Then he became Rehabilitation Supervisor I until March, 1975, and now he is Rehabilitation Supervisor II with the Rosewood Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Unit.

Honors continue to follow Martin. He was honored in 1970 by the Baltimore Jaycees as an Outstanding Young Man in the State of Maryland. He was also a member of the Board of Governors for the Echo House Foundation. Martin is the Assistant Keeper of Records and seals of the Omega Psi Phi-Fraternity – Mu Rho Chapter. Presently, since 1969, he is Recording Secretary of the Morgan Varsity “M” Club.

Currently resides in Pikesville, Maryland.
