Marvin Webster was born April 13, 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland and is a graduate of Edmondson High School. He entered Morgan in 1971 where he played basketball under the tutelage of coach "Nat" Frazier.
In 1974, with Webster leading the way, the Morgan Basketball Bears compiled a record of 28-5. This earned them the NCAA College Division Championship. They were the top ranked team in the nation among small colleges and Marvin was the most outstanding player of the tournament. He was named "Player of the Year" (college division). Webster dominated the boards-especially on defense and intimidated opponents near the basket. He excelled at shot blocking, which appropriately earned him the nickname "The Human Eraser." He was also tough on offense, averaging 21.4 points per game, shooting 55% from the Field. He was seldom in foul trouble and averaged 35 minutes of playing time.
Webster holds the top spot, in many categories, on the Bears All Time Records List. They include: most points in college career (1,990) season-(707); field goal percentage-season (56%), career-(52%); free throws made - game(15), season -(161), career (424); rebounds -career (2,267) and blocked shots -career (839), individual game- (13 vs. Stillman in1974), averaging 7.4 blocked shots per game over the course of his college career.
Webster was the second player picked in the 1975 National Basketball and American Basketball Associations draft. He played for the Denver Nuggets in the ABA, and the Seattle Supersonics and the New York Knicks in the NBA. He currently resides in New Jersey.
