Miles was born and raised in Baltimore. He graduated Forest Park High School where he was an honor student and an All-Maryland Scholastic Association performer in football and lacrosse.

Upon entering Morgan, he was on the Dean's List all four years. As a senior he was awarded the Biology Department's Honor Scholar Researcher Grant. Although his football career was ended by illness, he was a member of the Morgan C.I.A.A. Championship Swim Team in 1968-69. In his senior year he was captain of the first NCAA Lacrosse Team at an Historically Black College and was selected to play in the North-South National Lacrosse All-Star Game representing MSU.

Dr. Harrison is a member of the Sinai Surgical Associates and Faculty Practice. He founded breast cancer support group chartered now as "Sister Surviving." He co-authored the book "Ten Bears," which tells the story of the first and only lacrosse team at MSU.

Dr. Harrison, a man of many firsts, has received numerous awards and citations and is a frequent motivational speaker.
