Nicholas Theodore Lee Nicholas “Nick” Lee is a native of Phoenix, Maryland. He attended high school in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Baltimore City College.
While a student at City, Nick held the M.S.A. record in the 440 Yard Dash.
Nick entered Morgan in September, 1962 and graduated in June, 1966. While a Morgan, Nick’s performance in Track rates him among the all-time track greats.
Nick was he 440 yard dash champion of the SAAU, CIAA, and the IC4A. In addition to the quarter-mile, he ran the anchor leg on many of Morgan’s championship one-mile relay teams.
He anchored the championship Penn relay teams of 1963 and 1964; the IC4A championship teams of 1963, 1964, and 1965; and the indoor NCAA relay team that set a world record in 1965. Nick was not satisfied with just being a quarter-miler and an anchor man. He decided to try a new event, the 440 yard intermediate hurdles. In this event, he proved to be even more outstanding. In 1969, he set an intermediate hurdles record (49.2) on a dirt track.
Also in 1969, he was ranked number one intermediate hurdler in the world. He won the U.S. vs. U.S.S.R. 440 hurdles and the same event in the Western Hemisphere vs. Europe, as well as U.S. vs. Poland and the U.S. vs. Norway.
Nick was captain of the Track team and secretary of the History Club. He was on the Dean’s list in 1965 and 1966. Nick won the Carl Chavis Memorial Award in 1966 a graduation.
Nick was the National Amateur Athletic Union representative in 1969-1970. Nick is a member of the Varsity “M” Club, Big Brother’s organization, and holds an associate membership on the Real Estate Board.
Nick is presently employed as a marketing representative for IBM in Chevy Chase, Maryland. He also coached Morgan’s Track and Field Teams.
Currently resides in Stephens City, Virginia.
