Paula Clagon-Smith was a standout track athlete at Morgan State University from 1975-1979 and was one of the first members and scholarship recipients of Morgan’s women’s track team. In 1976, Paula helped set the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) record in the 4x400m relay at the University of Maryland Invitational Track Meet. She continued her outstanding performances helping to set an American record in the 4x400m relay (3:45:1) at the Princeton Indoor Relays and posted a time of 55:00 in the 400m dash at the University of Maryland Invitational.

In 1977, Paula was a member of the AIAW 4x400m Relay Championship team and the 4x400m relay team that posted a 3:44:2 at the University of Maryland Invitational in 1978. In 1979, her 4x400 relay team was nationally ranked in the Top 10. Her team tied a World Record and broke an American Record at the Princeton Relays with a time of 3:43:2, placed 1st at the Penn Relays (3:42:6), and won the AIWA Championship by setting an AIWA record with a time of 3:37:3. Paula was also ranked fifth in the nation in the 600-yard run.

Paula is currently currently resides in Hawthorne, California, and is an active member in her community, serving on the advisory boards of the Junipero Serra High School and Together non-profit organization, and serving as President of the Morgan State University Los Angles Alumni Chapter.
