Richard “Bo-Jay” Sowell is from Newark, New Jersey. “Bo-Jay” was the center on the varsity football teams from 1934 to 1937.
This man was the spiritual backbone of every team he played on. He was a dynamic standout on Morgan’s forward wall and demon on defense with his devastating tackles.
He became an All-CIAA selection at center for two years, 1936 and 1937 and an All-American selection in 1937. “Bo-Jay” anchored four undefeated teams. In addition, “Bo-Jay” played a tremendous game of basketball on four of Morgan’s great varsity squads.
He was a forward from 1934 to 1937. Again, because of his great spiritual leadership, he made Morgan on of the most feared squads in the CIAA.
“Bo-Jay” is a retired government employee with 30 years service. He is presently a substitute teacher in the Washington, D.C. school system.
