Ronald Cloud is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Edmondson Senior High School. He entered Morgan State University in 1968 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1975. Upon his matriculation, Mr. Cloud immediately began to make his mark on the Morgan Swimming and Diving program in the proceeding three years, helping Morgan to win three consecutive Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Swimming and Diving Championships.

During the 1968-69 competition season, Mr. Cloud placed second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter diving events at the CIAA Swimming and Diving Championships. In the following season, he improved his performance in the 3-meter diving competition capturing first place at the CIAA championships, while still being competitive in the 1-meter dive, placing in third place.

However, Mr. Cloud made his most significant contributions to the legacy of the Morgan State University Swimming and Diving program during the 1971 CIAA Championships. Not only did he repeat his previous success by placing first in the 3-meter diving competition, he also placed first in the 1-meter competition and placed third in the 50-yard freestyle. His diving performances set school and conference records, qualifying him to be one of two African-American divers selected to compete in the College Division (present day Division II) National Championships in Springfield, Massachusetts. Upon completion of his competition days, Mr. Cloud served as a volunteer diving coach for Morgan State for one year.

After the completion of his college studies, Mr. Cloud served as a physical education teacher in the Baltimore County Public School System for thirty-five years. During his career, Mr. Cloud was an active member of the National Education Association, the Maryland State Teachers Association, the Maryland Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the National Coaches Association. Mr. Cloud is also a member of the Pennsylvania Avenue AME Zion Church, and an active Prince Hall Mason, serving as the Worshipful Master of William F. Taylor Lodge #57 in 1989 and currently as the Assistant District Deputy Grand Master of the 11th Masonic District.
