Tillman “Tex” Henderson was born in Houston, Texas and attended the Jack Yates High School there. He entered Morgan State in 1948 and graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science.

During his stay at Morgan, “Tex” participated in basketball and football. His forte was football however, earning All CIAA honors in 1959, ’51 and ’54. He was an acclaimed All-American in 1955. His undergraduate activities included terms as treasurer of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, vice-president of the student government and sports editor of the Promethean (Morgan’s yearbook).

Post graduate activities include graduating Magna Cum Laude from Southern Methodist University where he received his master’s degree; attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army and receiving the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. “Tex” is currently a high school vice-principal and serves as southwest region vice-president of the Varsity “M” Club. He was also a member of Morgan’s Letterman’s Club- Dallas branch.

Tillman coached and recruited many athletes who attended Morgan at his encouragement. They are: James Phillips, Arnold and Russell Jolivet, Lawson Smart, Donald Mitchell, Harold Bell, Thomas Dean, and Brady Willis to name a few.
