A native of Trenton, New Jersey, Wenda (aka Wendy) Vereen-Christopher entered Morgan State University in 1984 as one of the top high school sprinters in the nation (she was an Olympic alternate). She ended her Morgan career as one of the top Bear individual and relay performers, setting four school records that still stand today.
Â
During her sophomore season, she cemented a spot on the Bears 4x100m relay team. That team would go on to win the 1986 Penn Relays, place second at the NCAA Division-I National Championships and set a school record (44.47). A picture of Mrs. Vereen-Christopher and her fellow teammates Ramona Riley-Bozier, Rochelle Stevens and Elthyn Tate rests at the Sports Legends Museum located at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
Â
She continued her outstanding performance setting school records in 3 events during her senior season: outdoor 200m (22.7), 4x200m relay (1:32.50) and the 4x400m relay (3:31.71). Mrs. Vereen-Christopher finished her Morgan State career as an eight-time All-American selection and an alternate on the 1984 US Olympic 4x100m relay team. She would later run on the 1993 US 4x100m relay team that won silver at the 1993 World Championships and set a new American Record.
Â
Mrs. Vereen-Christopher resides in Noblesville, Indiana, where she has worked for the Department of Workforce Development for the past 17 years. She is active in her local community serving as a member of the Board of Directors with the State Merit Services Credit Union (Indianapolis) and as an assistant coach with the Indiana Racing Cheetah Track Club (Youth Team). Mrs. Vereen-Christopher and her husband, Troy, are the proud parents of 14-year old Camille, who is a high school freshman and set her first school track and field record in the 200m dash in middle school.
