William Newton Jr.

Born on March 7, 1959 in Valhalla, New York, he attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford, New Yok, entered Morgan State University in September, 1972 and graduating with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and membership in the Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship.

While an undergaduate, "Billy" was a member of the varsity basketball team.  He was a selectee to to the "all Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament teams of 1974, '75 and '76.  He was a member of the NCAA Division II Basketball Championship team of 1974.  He won the Most Valuable Player award in the Schaeffer Metro Basketball tournament in1976, captained the Morgan State Basketball team of 1976 and was the nation's #1 free throw shooter (Division I and II) in 1976.

After graduation, "Billy" was assistant coach of the Men's Basketball team at Morgan from December 1976 to March 1978 under Gus Guydon, Aaron Johnson and Nat Frazier.  In September of 1981, he became head coach of the men's team with the inclusion of instructor in the University's Freshman Orientation and Health Education programs.
