Yarharbrough Roberts was reared in a loving home by Thornley and Annie Roberts of Hampton, Virginia. A standout in both basketball and track, he was a highly recruited prospect from Hampton’s Pembroke High School (Coach William Napper) in both sports. However, once he came to Baltimore to tour the Morgan State University campus and saw the rich tradition, it was an easy decision for him to become a Bear.

One of the most prolific scorers in the program’s history, Mr. Roberts excelled as a small forward/swing-man for the Bears’ basketball team. As a freshman, he became the team’s rebounding leader (5.3 rpg) and earned a selection to the 1979 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Freshman Team. Although Morgan withdrew from the MEAC at the end of the 1979-1980 year, Mr. Roberts established himself as a dominant scorer against Morgan opponents for the remainder of his career. He led the Bears in scoring for each of the three seasons that Morgan was not associated with an athletic conference, averaging 22.8 ppg as a sophomore, 19.5 ppg as a junior, and 20.1 ppg as senior.

Mr. Roberts finished his career in 1983 third on the all-time scoring list (1,820 points), fifth on the all-time career scoring average list (18.6 ppg), and was selected to the 1983 Baltimore Sun College All-State Team.

Upon the conclusion of his career at Morgan State University, Mr. Roberts briefly played professionally in South America in 1985. Since returning he has been an active member in the community serving as a youth basketball coach and mentor for young boys in Baltimore. Mr. Roberts, who holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration, currently works as a Healthcare Consultant for O'Boyle Inc. and is an active member of Community Baptist Church in Jessup, MD.

He resides in Reisterstown, MD, with his wife of 31 years, Crystal, and their three sons.
