Yvette L. Coleman is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and entered Morgan State upon graduating from Dunbar High School.  She entered Morgan State University in 1975 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1980.

Ms. Coleman was an outstanding track athlete at Morgan State from 1975-1979 and was a member of the first female scholarship track and field team in Morgan’s history.
 
In 1976, Ms. Coleman immediately began to establish her place in Morgan State athletic history helping to set the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) record in the 4x400 meter relay at the University of Maryland Invitational and an American record of (3:45.1) at the Princeton University Indoor Relays.

In 1977, she continued as a major contributor on the 4x400 meter relay team which captured the AIAW women’s championship. Ms. Coleman was a major contributor on the 4x400 meter relay team which set a meet record of (3:44.2) at the   University of Maryland invitational in 1978.
 
Ms. Coleman had her one of her best performances during the 1979 Princeton Relays when the Lady Bears 4x400 meter relay team tied a world record and broke the American record (3:43.2). She was also a member of the 4x400 m relay team to claim first place in the College Women’s Championship of America at the Penn Relays with a time of (3:42.6). Following the Penn Relays Ms. Coleman’s team set an AIAW Championship record in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of (3:37.3).
 
Ms. Coleman was first employed by the Baltimore City Department of Recreation in which she was recognized for her outstanding work. She is currently a teacher in the Baltimore Public School System and is on the Leadership Team at Harford Heights School #37.     

Currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland.
