Morgan State Topples Hampton, 5-2

Bears win MEAC Opener

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 21, 2015)-The Morgan State men's tennis team opened up Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play by capturing its first win of the season by defeating the Hampton Pirates by a score of 5-2 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at MSU Tennis Courts.
 
"It feels great to get our first win today," said MSU coach Matt Townes. "We dealt with a lot of adversity this week from midterms to the weather and our performance today was clutch."
 
"We are undefeated in conference play. Shoutout to our home crowd today, we really appreciated it." 
 
Evan Ward and Duk Young-Park beat Hampton's Miguel Suarez and Luke Thompson, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Lucas Krusinski and Treajh Ferguson prevailed against Joshua McQueen and Lakshmana Satchithananthan at the No. 3 spot, 8-6.
 
In the singles matchups, Evan Ward posted a hard fought victory against Luke Thompson, posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot. Duk Young-Park won at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 over Peter Odegbami. Lucas Krusinski posted a win at the No. 3 spot by defeating Lakshmana Satchithananthan 6-1,6-4.
 
Morgan State (1-7, 1-0 MEAC) will compete in non-conference action at the 4-1 Tournament hosted by VCU on Friday, March 27 in Richmond, Va. The Bears will take on Longwood at 2:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with VCU set to start at 4 p.m.
