BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 3, 2024) -- The Morgan State men's tennis team earned a 5-2 season-opener win on Saturday against the Hampton Pirates at Coppermine Bare Hills.
The Pirates (0-1) only had five athletes compete which led to one forfeited doubles and singles match.
Daniel Flynn and Donte Armbrister posted the first win for the Pirates by a score of 6-4 against Mikeal Carpenter and Niles Rachal. Rhajzon Rankins and Makkijha Brown defeated Aryan Arora and Emiliano Jorquera by a slim margin of 7-5.
In singles, Jorquera won his match over Brown by scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Arora earned his first singles win of the season, beating Anthony Parris 6-2, 6-3. Carpenter recorded his first win of the season as he held on to beat Flynn 6-4, 6-3. Rachal handed Armbrister a 6-4, 6-3 loss.
In the last matchup, Rankins dropped Shine Tokas 6-2, 6-2.
