Henry Mancini 谱写的音乐不但将电影的主题表现得恰到好处，更是整个时代的缩影。Mancini 的风格融合爵士与放克元素，总是力道十足，彰显着那个年代的光辉。年轻的 Mancini 在纽约茱莉亚音乐学院学习演奏贝多芬的音乐，在第二次世界大战期间，他在美国陆军服役，曾参与过解放 Mauthausen-Gusen 集中营的任务。后来，他与重新组建的 Glenn Miller 交响乐团合作，跟随 Ernst Krenek 和 Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco 学习音乐，并在 1952 年加入了环球影业的音乐部门。1963 年，喜剧电影《粉红豹》（The Pink Panther）上映，Peter Sellers 在其中扮演倒霉的法国探长 Jacques Clouseau。Mancini 为影片创作的主题音乐充满了猫科动物的优雅与神秘，如同猎豹漫步般迷人。
