CHAMBER MUSIC

Chamber music is at the core of the School of Music curriculum. The leadership and communication skills essential to chamber music performance empower the musician and lead to the best performances.

Our program for chamber music is a national model for success. Our faculty represents some of the best names in the chamber music field and fosters student artistry in the uniquely collaborative environment of the small ensemble. We actively support over 30 brass, percussion, piano, string, woodwind and mixed chamber ensembles.

Exciting career-building performance opportunities abound due to our location in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Our chamber music groups have performed at top local venues including the Kennedy Center, the Phillips Collection, embassies and more.

Engagement with our local communities is a central component of our chamber music program. Our students share their passion for chamber music and provide a meaningful service to the community by performing at local retirement communities, elementary schools, community centers, local festivals and more.

UMD Percussion Ensemble

The UMD Percussion Ensemble performs chamber music composed primarily for percussion and mallet instruments. Repertoire of historical importance is performed along with contemporary works, transcriptions of classical works and repertoire involving solo instruments with the ensemble. This also exposes students to new instruments that may not be addressed in private lessons.

Graduate Fellowship Ensembles
