Katie Carnaghi

Joined Naval Academy Athletic Association: October 2024

Katie Carnaghi, MS, ATC, serves as the athletic trainer for the baseball and women’s rowing teams after joining the NAAA in October 2024.

Prior to Navy, Carnaghi spent the 2024 season as a minor league athletic trainer for the Philadelphia Phillies, assigned as an associate athletic trainer to the Low-A affiliate Clearwater Threshers and the Phillies’ spring training facility.

Before making the move to pro ball, Carnaghi was the assistant athletic trainer at the University of Mary Washington for two seasons, working with the baseball, field hockey, track & field/cross country, women’s tennis and men’s and women’s rugby programs. While with UMW, she founded and ran the “Eagles, Let’s Talk” mental health support group for student-athletes while also mentoring six CAATE athletic training students.

During her time at Mary Washington, Carnaghi also served as the head athletic trainer for the 2023 season with the Bristol State Liners in the collegiate summer Appalachian League, a part of the MLB’s Prospect Development Pipeline. She previously worked as an athletic trainer for the Valley League’s Staunton Braves and Waynesboro Generals during the 2022 collegiate summer season.

As a graduate student at James Madison, Carnaghi did two clinical rotations with the Dukes’ athletic programs as well as rotations with Bridgewater College’s athletic department. Her undergraduate clinicals at VCU included stints as an athletic training intern and strength & conditioning intern at Randolph-Macon College. Between her time at VCU and JMU, Carnaghi also worked as a HITT coordinator for the Marine Corps Community Services organization.

Born into a military family with her father serving 30 years in the Marine Corps, Carnaghi earned her master’s degree in athletic training from James Madison University in 2022 and her bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, exercise science and kinesiology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2019.
