Playing Lynch: Capturing the Big Idea

“Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper. Down deep, the fish are more powerful and more pure. They’re huge and abstract. And they’re very beautiful.” – David Lynch

To celebrate the release of the new David Lynch tribute album, The Music of David Lynch, Hollywood legend John Malkovich and acclaimed photographer Sandro have collaborated to create vignettes featuring recreations of beloved characters and scenes from Lynch’s films.

To give the vignettes and album tracks the showcase they deserve, we’re making each one available through PlayingLynch.com, a beautifully designed Squarespace website and immersive gallery experience. It’s an entirely new kind of art exhibition and it features pieces from John Malkovich and Sandro that have never before been shown in a gallery or museum. Musical artists featured on the album include Sky Ferreira, Lykke Li, Karen O, and more.

Visitors to PlayingLynch.com can donate to the David Lynch Foundation, a non-profit group that uses the power of transcendental meditation to bring healing and empowerment to those suffering from trauma, stress, and loss. By doing this, visitors get access to tracks and videos before they’re released, or they can return to the site every day for a week as new characters and vignettes are unlocked.

At Squarespace, we believe that big ideas require a platform that’s capable of capturing them. That’s why we’re excited to collaborate with top artists and musicians to pay tribute to one of the most iconic filmmakers of all time.

All proceeds go to the David Lynch Foundation. For more information about the David Lynch Foundation, visit their website. To learn more about our collaboration with John Malkovich and Sandro, visit PlayingLynch.com.
