This is the third time using Airalo. First 2 times last year and earlier this year in HK and Malaysia was good.
This time in Dec 2024 the HK airalo seems to be chewing quicker data than last year. Reception in HK was not as good either, seemed a bit slow. In Malaysia, it’s called TIM, used under Maxis but the reception was dismal. 4G but can’t be used in many places right in KL itself. Slow or totally non responsive. A total waste of my money. Really disappointed as the first 2 times was good.

I purchased a discover + esim to use in Australia and New Zealand, whilst the data package worked, the call & text facility never worked. Support is awful, spent 2 days messaging back and forth, new person everytime asking for the same screenshot of settings over and over again

This was my first time using an eSIM for my travels.I found this process simple and easy. Selected my plan, and activated once in the country of choice. No issues, quality reception on calls and internet. No more purchasing SIM cards from the airport kiosks..
I had the worst experience with Airalo's eSIM. I purchased and installed the eSIM, followed all the instructions carefully, and saw it was activated. However, the app and my phone displayed a different network provider, and I couldn’t use the eSIM at all.
I reached out to their customer service, but the automated chatbot was completely useless. I requested help from a human agent, but no one ever responded. After wasting an entire day trying to make it work, I finally gave up and bought a different SIM.
In the end, I lost $7.50 and precious time. Airalo turned out to be a complete scam in my experience—stay away!

Stressful experience. Really awful! Do not use this company. Paid for an eSIM, went through the steps many times. Double checked everything was fine, data still did not work. No response on chat and only able to speak to a bot.

After years of outstanding service, using AirAlo across multiple countries and continents, and confidently recommending it to dozens of people, I was a very happy customer—until now. Unfortunately, I’ve encountered an issue with a new eSIM that revealed a significant weakness in their service: customer support.
The experience was deeply disappointing. Their support team seems to have little to no understanding of how mobile networks work, and their technical preparation is questionable at best. Instead of addressing the actual problem, they ask for endless screenshots that are entirely irrelevant to the issue. It feels like they’re going through a checklist rather than providing real solutions or insight.
This level of customer service is unacceptable, especially for a product as technical as eSIMs, where prompt and knowledgeable support is crucial. It’s disheartening to see such a drop in quality from a company I once held in high regard. I can no longer recommend AirAlo with the same confidence as before.
Verdict: Great until you need help—then it’s a frustrating mess.

It's a scam
It's a scam. Horrible experience. They claim to have 24/7 attention but it is not true, they do not answer the WPP and Email responses are always the same without any consideration for your response. I asked them before purchasing if my device was compatible and they told me yes but it was not true and they did not take responsibility. I ask for a refund but they did not answer at all.

Badly let down by Airalo voice e-sim
Most travellers want a voice function with their data e-sim in case of emergency. In my case, I was unable to call the car hire company for emergency assistance. Airalo was responsive but unable to help. Within 3 hours, the data element stopped working. It was my wife who then had to continue the troubleshooting conversation on her data only e-sim. No reason for the failure was ever received and after 2 days of regular communication with my wife using her data e-sim, Airalo refunded in AirMoney, which rather defeated the purpose - why would I buy a product again that didn’t work?

Do not use airalo. I chose airalo because of its competitive price.
My esim did not work at all. I followed all the instructions and it still didn't work. I even spent an hour and a half on their chat with a staff member to try and resolve it bit it still didn't work.
Their chat service is terrible.
Very disappointing. The last thing you need on a holiday is to be chasing up incompetence and being scammed.

Have a go…
I was very apprehensive about being able to set this up.
As I was visiting Taiwan and New Zealand thought it could be very useful.
I’ve traveled to Taiwan many times now and the free wi fi is easy to get.
It’s when you’re in need of wanting to use map for a direction or What’s app.
So I decided to take a punt at £8 felt I’ll have a go. I must say after a few tries I managed to get it to work. So set again to do for New Zealand, this time managed much better and it’s wonderful.
I’m yet to try adding data but sure now not to get stressed when I need this.

Bad, but not necessarily a scam
Bought a $38 USD eSIM for travelling to Malawi. It installed fine, and connection bars indicate it is working, but no data connected.
Eventually got a refund after leaving quite negative reviews here and on the App Store and some pretty heated language in our emails.
I’m updating my rating to 3 star because they did refund me in the end. Could be worse.

Easy and convenient to use
I recently loaded a Cyprus e sim when traveling from the North to the South. The esim installed easily and the value for money was amazing. It was simple to switch between primary sun and esim. I’ll be using this system again on future travels

both of us used Airalo and esim for the first time on our trip it was great ,we sent a lot of videos to family members and used messenger for two way communication, fantastic way to see and keep in touch with children and grand kids.
for our trip we only purchased data, for next trip we will get both data and some phone.

Wasted eSim, no customer service!
Previously I used Airalo in UK and Iceland. The eSims activated when they picked up the local cell service. Today, I installed an eSim for Panama and it activated immediately for the 30 days of the purchase ($35). No warning of this in the install instructions. As I am not going in the next 30 days I have wasted my money. Contacting Airalo is akin to putting a message in bottle and throwing it in the ocean. I'm looking for another provider.

Largely trouble-free
Unfamiliar with e-sims, I was very sceptical about the Carribean Hopper product before I arrived in Puerto Rico and was up and running immediately. Of the 6 islands where I needed a data service, only in Sint Maarten did it fail to make a successful handshake with the local provider which is far better than I feared.
I have to say that I found the config instructions poorly presented and unnecessarily convoluted but my initial anxiety gave way to relief when I got up and running.

Worst customer service
Worst customer service. Both mine and my partners phones suddenly lost all signal while we were in the middle of a foreign country. It’s now been 6 hours and we still have no signal. We have tried to contact customer support for over an hour and a half now and cannot get though to a human. Absolutely appalling service
