Ordered custom gate sizes - I made a mistake and they emailed me immediately to rectify it, rather than just following my spec. Thought that was great!
Product delivered when they said and all looks
good

Exceeded my expectations! Strong, sturdy, beautifully made. Really pleased with them, and would highly recommend Wortley Brothers to anyone. Many thanks.

These gates are extremely well built, and I'm sure will last for years. Also, they arrived on time which is always a plus when it's part of a landscaping build schedule.

Stunning high quality product

Stunning high-quality product.

The whole process from selection, order and then delivery was seamless and very easy.

Great communication and advice prior to order and aftersales service have been fantastic when ordering spare re-coat supplies.

Would highly recommend on the service alone.

The gates, well the quality and workmanship are second to none. The craftsmanship and finish are fantastic, the gates are simply stunning.

Expensive rubbish

Gates looked fantastic on the website-in reality they are made from rubbish with wood splits filled with filler and double gates that are not even handed-on the plus side they probably won’t last long so when I replace them I’ll go to a more reputable company-wish I’d have read these reviews before I ordered-so disappointed .

Wortley brothers poor customer service

Our gate arrived with no notification and once opened we found one of the gate uprights to be bowed, several nails protruding on the panelling plus gaps on the morticed joints. We contacted customer service who basically told us that wood moves, extremely unhelpful and we will certainly not be recommending to our friends, very poor all round.

I ordered and fitted gates from this…

I ordered and fitted gates from this company 15 months ago. On arrival they were slightly damaged which I was able to repair. Now after 15 months the are splitting/coming apart on the curved section which is made from separate pieces of timber.
I emailed them with my concerns and received automated reply that timber moves with different weather conditions and can split, but nothing about where timbers coming apart where timbers have been joined together. Sent another email same reply, sent another email no reply .
Terrible customer service would never use again.

Beware

Beware
do not use this company unless you want to use a company that miss sell on their very convincing web site. Overpriced, VERY poor customer after-sales service. Do not listen to their delivery times changed three different days and approx 6 different times. Paid extra for treatment - gate came with stain missing, all the panel pins protruding. sent photos explaining the issue asking for monetary refund. Met with an excuse blaming their spray shop (which was obvious) offered to send a tin of stain so I could use to "double the protection". as i expected to date no stain. no excuse giving for protruding panel pins.
I have since seen a lot of other companies offering similar gates at a fraction of cost. I was taken in with their web site.

Overpriced, and not what I expected

Gate is average quality and finish, delivery was as stated.
Very overpriced for what it is. Beware if wanting double gates - what I ordered was a double gate with a right and left hand section. What came was just 2 identical gates, so these are not proper double gates.

Don't believe the Quality hype on the website

Stark contrast between what's on the website and what's delivered and how after sales issues are handled.

Ordered large bespoke wooden gates, posts and hardware from the Northern branch in July, paying extra for the gates & posts to be finished in Graphite. The finish was nothing like the coverage shown on the website - I was told those photos were customers own paint, but that's not made clear on the website. The 195x195x2700mm post had a split across the top of the post (5mm wide and running 900mm down one side and 600mm down the other) - I was told this is normal even though my gate fitter said the post was fractured and not fit for purpose. Eventually got them to agree to collect and refund the £130 for the post and have since source a 200x200x3000mm pressure treated post for £70.

The whole experience was made worse by the attitude and inappropriate language of the person I had to deal with. On more than one occasion before agreeing to refund the post, he told me 'life was too short to make a big deal of this'. I asked a number of times for the name and contact details of someone I could complain to and eventually called the head office - only to reach the same guy who then told me that I would 'end up a sad and lonely woman' because I wanted to complain!

Having done a company search to find details of the directors of the company, I now think the person I spoke to was one of them - Kenny Wortley. If that's the case, it's pointless taking the time to complain to the company. But, I believe it's important for others to be aware of how customers' reasonable concerns are handled and the verbal abuse they may receive when raising those concerns.

Quality must include after sales service.
