So reassuring to deal with an institution of the Yorkshire’s calibre. YBS have moved with the times but have still kept a high standard of customer care and attractive rates of interest.

You have a bank/office in ossett ,the only one that is not in the banking hub. The hub offers one day per week allotted to each named bank so if you wanted to see someone the chances of getting an appointment that day are going to be slim so you might have to wait a week, I find that very poor. Stay open and independent.
Went to branch to open new joint account. Experience was pleasant and easy. Polite and welcoming staff.
Friendly, prompt,no pushing you to things you didn't go in for, being able to see a person and not have to do things on line.

Kilmarnock Branch .
Kilmarnock branch .
The staff are so grumpy. Don't speak not even to ask what you are in for. They just look at you but don't make any conversation. The same 2 woman make you feel like they don't want you coming in to the branch . Spoke to others who use this branch they have said the same ..not a nice experience.

Yorkshire building society doesn’t care about the people it serves. They will never be fair should you have a real problem with your account/or mortgage.

Maturity of Fixed Rate Bond which has failed to happen
I had a Fixed Rate Bond with the Society which matured on 31 January 2025. A couple of weeks beforehand, I completed a YBS form & requested that funds be transferred to my account with NatWest upon maturity. I paid my full credit card balance off on 31 January, honestly believing this payment would be covered. I have checked my NatWest account balance on a daily basis & as at the end of business hours on 3 February nothing at all has been transferred from the Yorkshire, nor is there any credit amount pending. As a direct result, my NatWest account is overdrawn (first time ever in 30 years) & I'm incurring interest at 28% on a daily basis.
I phoned the Leicester branch of the Yorkshire B S early this morning & no-one picked up the phone. I just got a message to leave my name & number & someone would contact me within one working day. Not good enough I thought, so I called the Head Office number. After having been told a couple of times that the post code I'd tried to identify myself with didn't match the one on my account (?? it's the one YBS has been using on all its letters to me quite successfully for years now) I finally got through to a real person & explained why I was calling. This poor lady said she knew nothing because the Leicester branch held all the paperwork & so she called the Leicester branch on my behalf. She didn't get through either, & suggested I visit the branch to see what had happened. I am pretty annoyed by now & tell her (as I live in a small village) that the bus service out here is only 2-hourly & so it would probably take up several hours of my day for me to do this. I was promised that an email would be sent to the Leicester branch & that Leicester does read all its email messages.
After ending this conversation, I called the Leicester branch again. No-one picks up the phone, but I latch on to another message to the effect that if my issue is an urgent one, I can call a different Head Office number, as there will be "dedicated" staff who will be able to answer my query. I am firmly of the opinion that my issue IS urgent (28% interest on a daily basis I am unhappy about) so I call. No joy. It seems that no-one other than Leicester branch knows what's happening to my money, because Head Office obviously doesn't have a clue. The second staff member also tried to call Leicester & again there is no answer (as I rather expected). So another email goes off to the Leicester branch with the assurance that it is certain to respond & contact me.
All this has taken up my entire damn morning, & I've got nowhere.
In the afternoon I called the Leicester branch 3 more times with the lack of response which I'm now accustomed to, but am advised on the third call at 4.44 pm that the office is now closed. Needless to say, & despite all the assurances to the contrary, the emails have had no effect whatsoever within the Leicester branch & no-one has contacted me. One final call to NatWest confirms no action has been taken by YBS, my account remains overdrawn by the same amount as it was this morning.
I just thank God that the matured elusive Fixed Rate Bond is the only account I hold with YBS because I certainly won't be investing with them ever again. And I expect the Society to pay interest up to the date I get to receive my money & to reimburse my overdraft charges too.
Be warned, folks, especially if you live in Leicester or the surrounding area.
In response to the YBS reply "Social media isn't secure" ?? What's the problem? And I've already called the Head Office number suggested & no-one could help me. I have no intention of wasting yet more of my time by calling a second time only to have to relate the whole story all over again & be told you'll look into things, thanks. Same goes for completing a complaints form. I've outlined YBS's failings more than adequately in my Trustpilot review. You can easily identify me from the details I've given. You call me!
