| Mobile housing for laying hens can contribute to improving animal welfare and the quality of the eggs while reducing impact on the environment. However, their uptake remains limited as they also present a number of risks. A German Operational Group designed, tested and disseminated an efficient management system for mobile coops. |

| Opportunities for advisors under Horizon Europe |
| Horizon Europe includes calls to set up EU-wide advisory networks. COREnet was the first such project, launched in 2022. Over the next two years, there are five more of these advisory network calls on different topics. Applying to such calls can be challenging, but there are many useful support tools and information sources available. Patrick Pasgang from COREnet shared his experience and a few useful tips. |

The Innovation Award for Women Farmers |
| Copa-Cogeca developed this competition to shed a light on innovative projects conducted by European Women farmers. In 2023 its focus is on the three pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social. Shortlisted projects will gain significant EU visibility and there are cash prizes up to 10 000€ for winners. Deadline 31 March 2023. |

Novel technologies for resilient agriculture |
| The EIC Accelerator Challenge supports SMEs, start-ups and spinout companies to develop and scale up game-changing innovations to support resilient agriculture. Grant funding of up to €2.5 million is available. Selected companies also receive coaching, mentoring, access to investors and corporates, and more. Calls are open now, see the details here. |

The brochure presents opportunities related to innovation in agriculture, forestry and rural areas in Cluster 6 as well as others such as the EU Soil Mission. Many of these calls close in March, so you still have time to apply. |

Landcare Europe Events on Agroforestry systems |
| Have a look at upcoming events organised by Landcare Europe, a network fostering biodiversity, resilient ecosystems and quality of life in natural and man-made landscapes in cooperation with farmers and conservationists. Events include workshops in March on biodiversity, water & soil management and in April on species and habitat restoration as well as an EU conference in June. |

Practice abstracts on bioeconomy and rural development |
| The BRANCHES Horizon 2020 project gathers and promotes best practices and research results relating to bioeconomy and rural development, including new bio-based initiatives and success stories regarding forest and agricultural biomass supply chains. Project coordinator Johanna Routa: “Our practice abstracts are formatted into short clear factsheets free to be downloaded on our website. They include new methods or innovations [...] that can be potentially replicated in other countries.” |

| AgriBIT is a Horizon 2020 project all about increasing the precision, accuracy and continuity of precision agriculture services available to farmers. Preserving local and indigenous agricultural varieties |
| The ‘National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece’ now includes the element “Local and indigenous agricultural varieties: knowledge and practices”. The varieties in question include “Prespa” beans or the dried figs “Taxiarchis”. This action recognises the crucial role of these varieties for the provision of food to local people as well as their significance for the development of production practices. |
