Recycling waste from horticulture into substrates and fertilisers |
| The agricultural and horticultural sectors produce a lot of organic waste. At the same time, fertilisers are often derived from non-renewable or non-environmentally friendly sources. In the Netherlands and Belgium, two Operational Groups are working with the same aim to recycle waste from horticultural production into substrates and fertilisers. |

| Facing increases in fertiliser and energy prices |
| In response to the impacts of the climate crisis and the economic consequences and disruptions to food supply due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine, the prices for agricultural inputs and products have been driven upward. This contributes to the increased vulnerability of food systems and threatens food security in the long term. This newsletter focuses on this topic. |

A decision support tool to estimate N availability from cover crops |
| The MERCI method is simple to implement and allows advisors and farmers to concretely evaluate the interest of planting a cover crop and to reduce, if necessary, the fertilisation of succeeding cash crops. It helps to estimate the N release of the cover crop residues over a period of time, as well as the P, K, S and Mg availability. |
