Evaluation expertise: Assessments of LEADER’s added value 

LEADER stakeholders are being provided with support from a range of different types of evaluation expertise to help better understand, assess and demonstrate the added value of this local development method. 

Transnational cooperation: Overview of the 2014–2022 period

Transnational cooperation (TNC) projects are a core component of the LEADER methodology and the results of LAG cooperation often showcase the added value that can be gained by using LEADER funding. TNC’s potential was therefore highlighted at the first meeting of the EU CAP Network’s governance Subgroup on LEADER and territorial development.

LEADER facts and figures: New LAGs for 2023-2027   

More than 2 600 LAGs are becoming operational in 2023 and these will implement LEADER through area-based Local Development Strategies that guide LAG funding for bottom-up development processes involving innovation, networking and cooperation among other objectives at regional, national and EU levels.

EU Member State review: LEADER achievements in Latvia 

Each LEADER newsletter features a dedicated review of how the LEADER methodology is being used in a specific EU Member State and Latvia’s LEADER achievements are the focus for this edition of the newsletter. Thanks to the Latvian national network, managing authority, and paying agency for their help in preparing this article. 

Innovative and digital community-led development in Ireland

Cooperation is valuable at different LEADER levels including cooperation between LAGs from different territories and stakeholders with different knowledge. Local cooperation between LAGs and their local communities is a fundamental form of LEADER cooperation, and innovation can help LAGs cooperate better with their local stakeholders.

Rural innovation synergies benefit Spanish cherry producers

Synergies between rural innovation engines in the Common Agricultural Policy are possible as shown by the success of LEADER Local Action Group cooperation with a European Innovation Partnership Operational Group and Producer Organisations focused on improving the competitiveness of cherries from mountain areas in Spain.

Demonstrating LEADER’s added value better

LEADER holds more than 30 years of experience in community-led local development. Throughout these decades LEADER has evolved and matured into a well-established methodology capable of generating many benefits. LAGs continue to build on LEADER achievements by implementing Local Development Strategies in ways which better demonstrate added value.
