Agricultural cooperative in Slovakia applies regenerative farming to restore soil health and productivity

Following a change of management in 2012, Krakovany-Stráže – an agricultural cooperative in Slovakia – has been applying regenerative agricultural practices to restore and maintain soil health and productivity. This change in management has also helped significantly reduce input costs and improve biodiversity.

Showcasing the added value of ecosystem services of farming in mountain areas

‘Value-added mountain farming’ is an Operational Group in Austria developing business models based on ecosystem services to improve the socio-economic and environmental resilience of mountain areas and their communities.

EU CAP Network conference ‘EIP-AGRI Operational Groups: Innovation in practice’

Less than one month to go until the EU CAP Network conference takes place in Estoril, Portugal. The aim of the event is to celebrate and showcase the achievements of EIP-AGRI Operational Groups, past and present. As part of the event, Operational Groups and other projects will be presented in an exhibition of 100 stands. Keep an eye out for further information on the webpage and social media #OGconference.

New Agrinnovation magazine highlights opportunities in the circular bioeconomy

The tenth edition of Agrinnovation showcases ways to optimise the use of natural resources in Europe’s rural areas. It features stories on innovative projects that explore the circular use of bio-based resources, improve on-farm nutrient management, create circular water systems and unlock opportunities for renewable energy.

New brochure: Collaboration and funding opportunities for Operational Groups

EIP-AGRI Operational Groups can benefit from exchanging knowledge with other innovative projects, through (trans)national or EU-wide connections. A new brochure highlights successful collaboration, funding sources, support platforms and networking activities that can inspire Operational Groups to connect and boost innovation across the EU. Follow up on latest EU CAP Network events

Download documents, presentations, and photos from the seminar ‘Skills and lifelong learning for agricultural advisory and training service providers’ and the workshop ‘Circular water management’. The seminar's main focus was how training and advisory services can support lifelong learning AKIS-wide while the workshop considered the reuse and recycling of water for agricultural production.

Regenerative agriculture for soil health

On 23-24 April, the experts of the Focus Group 'Regenerative agriculture for soil health' will meet for a second time in Denmark. Their main topic is how regenerative agriculture practices can help farmers restore, protect and improve soil health and productivity. EU CAP Network multiple cross-visits between Operational Groups

The EU CAP Network is organising two cross-visits between multiple Operational Groups on 26-27 June working on 'Climate adaptation on the ground - innovative solutions to build farm resilience', and 'Use of agricultural and forestry residues for creating alternative sources of income for farmers and foresters'. The call has now closed, but you can follow their progress on these webpages.

Webinar - behavioural research and insights for transitioning to sustainable food systems

Join the online multi-stakeholder working group workshop on 23 April 2024, organised by the BEATLES Horizon Europe project. The first part will present the project, and the second will be a collaborative session to identify challenges and opportunities in the transformation of the food system and collectively explore strategies for advancing climate-smart farming practices.

Launch event of the European Partnerships on agroecology and animal health and welfare

In February, a webinar was organized to celebrate the new European Partnerships on Agroecology (EUP AE) and Animal Health and Welfare (EUP AH&W). Both partnerships aim to contribute to resilient agri-food systems in Europe. Specific objectives were presented and discussed.

Improving the resilience of equine farms

EUnetHorse, a thematic network launched in 2023, is the first Horizon Europe project dedicated to equine animals. Its overall aim is to improve the resilience of equine farms in the EU. The network is reaching the end of its first phase: identifying the needs of equine agricultural operators across Europe.

Mental health and well-being of EU farmers in the spotlight

Re-watch the seminar organised by the Horizon Europe project SafeHabitus, which took place at the European Parliament in January 2024. The focus was on the pressing challenges impacting the mental health of farmers and farm workers.

OrganicTargets4EU assessment on organic AKIS

The Horizon Europe project OrganicTargets4EU has carried out an assessment of the knowledge and innovation systems (AKIS) in organic agriculture, aquaculture and value chain actors. The project states: “In the context of today’s food production and mounting environmental challenges, it is critically important to have a well-established science-practice-policy dialogue.”

The ERA-NET ICT-AGRI-FOOD research funding call is published

The call addresses urgent global challenges in agricultural and food systems, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security. Proposals must contribute to the transformation of agri-food systems using data-based systems and ICT technologies. Join the webinar on 24 April and pre-register proposals by 16 May.

Newsletters go out on the second Thursday of every month, so please send the information to us at least four weeks before that date.
