The Horizon Europe GRASS CEILING project empowers rural women and ensures a greater number of women are leading socio-ecological innovations in agriculture, the rural economy and rural communities. To achieve its goal, the project has established living labs in nine different countries.

Horizon Europe project ClimateSmartAdvisors will create a network to boost European agricultural advisory services to promote the widespread adoption of climate-smart farming practices amongst farmers.

An Italian Operational Group has teamed up with local farmers to test the use of black soldier fly larvae to convert organic livestock waste in a low-cost and sustainable way. The report from the workshop is now available to download. The workshop was held in Krakow, Poland, in April 2024 to demonstrate that farming and rural areas can be attractive places for women to develop business ideas. The aim was to empower women by exchanging knowledge, identifying successful initiatives and projects led by female innovators, and networking.

In this new EIP-AGRI challenge video, Anna Sitek, an organic lavender grower from Poland, talks about her life as an agricultural entrepreneur.

The workshop took place in Seville (Spain) in March 2024. Participants shared innovative approaches and practices on circular water management considering the reuse and recycling of water for agricultural production. The participants took part in interactive discussions and also attended two field trips.

The EU CAP Network is organising 13 networking and capacity-building events over the next 12 months related to innovation and knowledge exchange | EIP-AGRI. They include 3 Focus Groups, 2 seminars, 3 workshops, 3 cross-visits between Operational Groups, an ad-hoc expert meeting and a stand-alone brokerage event related to Horizon Europe.

The EU CAP Network has carried out a study to assess the outcomes achieved by EIP Operational Group (OG) projects. It identifies key drivers and barriers to their success and aims to better understand how OG projects function, their design, the processes of co-creating innovation, and the dissemination of innovative solutions.

Have your say in the development of sustainable soil management strategies and influence policies that will drive innovation on farms across Europe. This survey by the Soil-X-Change project aims to identify the barriers encountered by farmers and quantify real needs. Complete the survey by 15 November (available in different languages).

ECHO is a new project co-funded by Horizon Europe aiming to engage citizens in protecting and restoring soils by building their skills and enhancing their knowledge. As part of this, it is recruiting ambassadors to spread awareness of soil health, as well as organise citizen science efforts and soil sampling.

The 'AdvisoryNetPEST' network is currently being set up to bring advisors and stakeholders across Europe together to connect and exchange knowledge on innovative solutions to reduce the use and risks of pesticides. Contribute to the development of this network by taking part in a short survey, taking only 5 minutes to complete.

CBE JU is an EU partnership which boosts Europe's competitiveness in the bioeconomy sector, creating new green jobs and addressing environmental challenges. By the end of 2023, CBE JU had supported a total of 161 projects developing circular bio-based products and materials from renewable resources. Find out more of its highlights from 2023.

The EU Organic Day was held on 23 September to highlight excellence across the organic value chain and announce the winners of the third EU Organic Awards. The awards aim to reward the best and most innovative organic actors. Winners included Reinhild Frech-Emmelmann in the Female Farmer category, specialising in organic, GMO-free seeds, with over 800 seed-resistant varieties, promoting sustainable farming across Europe.

On 13-14 November 2024, the association ‘Food for Biodiversity’ is organising a conference dedicated to the crucial role of biodiversity in the global food supply chain. This interactive conference will spotlight innovative approaches and best practices for protecting biodiversity while building sustainable and resilient food systems. It will take place in Berlin, Germany. Find more information and how to register.

You can still register for the Organic Innovation Days 2024 organised by TP Organics, an EU event on organic and agroecological research and innovation. This year’s theme is ‘Preparing for the next innovation ready for the next political mandate’. It will take place on 22-23 October in Brussels.
