The European Committee for Standardization is one of three European Standardization Organizations (together with CENELEC and ETSI) that have been officially recognized by the European Union and by the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) as being responsible for developing and defining voluntary standards at European level.

Scope

The scope of the CEN/TC 439 is to be responsible for the standardization in all civilian security services.
Excluded from the scope are:
− Standardization of the product related requirements;
− The Societal and citizen sector including aspects of prevention, response, mitigation and recovery before, during and after a destabilizing or disruptive event, which falls under the responsibility of CEN/TC 391 ‘Societal and citizen security’,
− CEN-CENELEC/TC 4 ‘Services for fire safety and security systems’
− Cash-in-transit (CIT), cash processing and cash management activities.
