SAN FRANCISCO AND DUBLIN – From Black Friday through Cyber Monday (BFCM), Stripe processed 465 million transactions with a total payment volume of more than $31 billion. It was the largest ever four-day period on Stripe.

Stripe’s public microsite and custom BFCM machine tracked results in real-time, monitoring everything from peak transactions per minute to currency volumes. In 2024, businesses on Stripe continued to expand their global customer reach, with cross-border payments increasing to a new high of $3.2 billion across 43 million total cross-border transactions. E-commerce, retail, and transportation saw particular boosts in consumer spending over BFCM.

This was Stripe's first ever Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend tracking crypto transactions. Stripe processed crypto in more than 60 markets with the US, Germany, and France leading the way.

“Cross-border payments drove more than 10% of total volume over the weekend, proof that Black Friday-Cyber Monday is no longer a US-centric in-person shopping day – it's a global e-commerce event,” said Emily Glassberg Sands, Stripe’s head of information. “As Black Friday-Cyber Monday becomes increasingly borderless, businesses are expanding the number of payment methods they can accept in order to reach more consumers.”

The world’s largest enterprises rely on Stripe during high-volume events

During this peak shopping period, Stripe processed 137,000 transactions per minute, maintaining an API uptime greater than 99.9999%. Retail giants like Amazon, Shopify, Best Buy, and Zara turned to Stripe for its industry-leading uptime.

“Black Friday-Cyber Monday is one of the busiest and most important sales weekends of the year for Shopify merchants,” said Farhan Thawar, VP and head of engineering for Shopify. “With millions of transactions happening every minute, Stripe’s reliability ensures Shopify merchants can maximise revenue over the weekend.”

PepsiCo partners with Stripe to power direct-to-consumer sales across more than 20 countries for brands like Gatorade, SodaStream, and Rockstar Energy. “Black Friday-Cyber Monday is one of the reasons we turned to Stripe. Reliability is so important as we continue to prioritise e-commerce for our customers around the world,” said Henry Mori, VP of engineering for PepsiCo.

Stripe powered online payments for global apparel companies like ManoMano, The ICONIC, and Sportsdirect over the weekend, while retailers like Castlery and URBN brands continue to turn to Stripe for an omnichannel shopping experience. URBN brands, which owns Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie Group, Free People, and FP Movement, uses Stripe Terminal as its primary in-store checkout option in North America. Online, URBN helps customers save time with products like Link, Stripe’s one-click checkout.
