Change Touch ID & Password settings on Mac
Use Touch ID & Password settings to change your login password, and—if your Mac or Magic Keyboard has Touch ID—add one or more fingerprints to your user account and enable your fingerprint to unlock your Mac. You can also enable Touch ID to be used to make purchases with Apple Pay and from the iTunes Store, App Store, or Apple Books. Learn how to use Touch ID.
To change these settings, choose Apple menu 
in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

A login password has been set for this user | Click Change to change the login password and password hint for the current user. While changing the password, you can use the Password Assistant to help you select a secure password. Click the key |
Add Fingerprint | Add a fingerprint to the current user account. To rename a fingerprint, click the text below the fingerprint, then enter a new name. You can add up to three fingerprints per user account (your Mac can store up to five fingerprints total). |
Use Touch ID to unlock your Mac | Unlock your Mac with any fingerprint added to the current user account. For security, you need to enter your password when you start up your Mac. |
Use Touch ID for Apple Pay | Approve Apple Pay purchases using Touch ID. |
Use Touch ID for purchases in iTunes Store, App Store, and Apple Books | Make purchases using Touch ID in the iTunes Store, the App Store, and in Apple Books. |

Use Touch ID for fast user switching | Switch between Mac user accounts using Touch ID. To switch accounts using the menu bar or Control Center, see Switch quickly between users. |
Use Apple Watch to unlock your apps and your Mac | Use your Apple Watch (instead of entering your password) to unlock apps when they require a password and unlock your Mac when you wake it from an idle state.
