See what friends are listening to in Music on Mac
After you create an Apple Music profile, you can find and follow friends to see what they’re listening to.
Note: You can’t create an Apple Music profile in the Apple Music Voice Plan. Apple Music and Apple Music Voice aren’t available in all countries or regions. See the Apple Support article Availability of Apple Media Services.
Choose how to find friends and linked accounts
Before you can choose which friends to share music with, you need to allow Music to access your contacts.
In the Music app on your Mac, choose Account > Find Friend Settings.
If you don’t see this option, sign in to Apple Music using your Apple ID.
Do any of the following:
Allow Apple Music to see your contacts: Select the Contacts on Apple Music option so Apple Music can see your contacts and recommend new friends to you periodically.
Allow friends to find you by Apple ID: Select the Allow Finding by Apple ID option and friends who have your Apple ID information can see you as a recommended friend.
Click Done.
Follow friends
After you allow Music to access your contacts, you can send a Follow request to any of your contacts who are already sharing music in Apple Music; optionally, you can invite other contacts to join Apple Music.
In the Music app on your Mac, click Listen Now in the sidebar.
Click the My Account button (looks like a photo or monogram) in the top-right corner of the window, then click Find More Friends at the bottom of your profile.
Note: To specify who appears in this list, choose Account > Find Friend Settings.
Do one of the following:
Click Follow next to one of your contacts sharing music.
A request is sent if your friend needs to approve the request; otherwise, you start following them and you can immediately see what they’re listening to.
Click Invite next to a name, then choose to either send an email or a text message invitation.
When your friend receives the invitation, they need to join Apple Music, create a profile and approve you as a follower before you can see what they’re listening to.
Click Close.
Alternatively, you can enter a friend’s name in the search field, choose a result, then click Follow. If you can’t find someone, make sure they have created a profile. If the friend’s profile is private, they have to approve your request.
