Locate a device in Find My on Mac
In Find My, you can see the location of a missing Apple device and play a sound on it to help you find it.
Important: In order to locate a missing device, you must add it to Find My before it’s lost.
About locating a device
You can see a device if it’s online. If a device is offline, you see the location of the device the last time it went online or connected to the Find My network.
For iPhone 11 and later, Find My can locate it for up to 24 hours after it’s turned off (with iOS 15 or later) and for up to 5 hours if it’s in power reserve mode (with iOS 15.2 or later). See Add your iPhone to Find My in the iPhone User Guide.
For AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, if you turned on the Find My network, you can locate them for up to 24 hours after they last went online, even if they’re in their case. For AirPods (1st and 2nd generation) and supported Beats products, you can locate them when they’re online, out of their case and within Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. See Locate AirPods in Find My in the AirPods User Guide.
For an iPhone Leather Wallet with Find My support, you can see its location when it’s attached to your iPhone and its last known location if it detaches from your iPhone. See Add your iPhone Leather Wallet to Find My in the iPhone User Guide.
See the location of a device
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Devices.
In the Devices list, select the device you want to locate.
If the device can be located: It appears on the map so you can see where it is. The updated location and timestamp appear under the device’s name. If there’s a blue circle around the device, the location is approximate.
If the device can’t be located: Below the device’s name, “No location found” appears. If you want to be notified when the location is available, click the Info button on the map, then select Notify When Found. You receive a notification once it’s located.
Important: Make sure you allow notifications for the Find My app. See Change Notifications preferences on Mac.

Tip: You can turn on separation alerts for a device if you have an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Apple Watch signed in with the same Apple ID. See “Set separation alerts in case you leave a device behind” in the user guide for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, or Find misplaced devices in the Apple Watch User Guide.
Play a sound on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or Apple Watch
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Devices.
In the Devices list, select the device you want to play a sound on, then click the Info button on the map.
Click Play Sound.
Note: You can also Control-click the device in the Devices list, then choose Play Sound.
If the device is online: A sound starts after a short delay and gradually increases in volume, then plays for about two minutes. The device may vibrate. A Find My [device] alert also appears on the device’s screen.
A confirmation email is also sent to your Apple ID email address.
If the device is offline: The sound plays the next time the device connects to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.

Play a sound on your AirPods or Beats product
You can play a sound on your AirPods or Beats headphones if they’re out of their case. If you turn on the Find My network for AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, you can also play a sound when they’re in their case.
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Devices.
In the Devices list, select your AirPods or Beats product, then click the Info button on the map.
Click Play Sound. If your AirPods or Beats product are separated, you can click Left or Right to find them one at a time.
If your AirPods or Beats product are online, or if you turned on the Find My network: They play a sound immediately (for two minutes).
If your AirPods or Beats product are offline: The sound plays the next time they connect to a Wi-Fi or mobile network. You also receive a notification on your devices the next time your AirPods or Beats product are in range of one of your devices and the Find My app is open.
Important: Make sure you allow notifications for the Find My app. See Change Notifications preferences on Mac.

Stop playing a sound on a device
If you find your device and want to turn off the sound before it stops automatically, do one of the following:
Mac: Click OK in the Find My Mac alert.
iPhone, iPad or iPod touch: Press the power button or a volume button or flip the Ring/Silent switch. If the device is locked, you can also unlock it or swipe to dismiss the Find My [device] alert. If the device is unlocked, you can also tap OK in the Find My [device] alert.
Apple Watch: Tap Dismiss in the Find My Watch alert or press the Digital Crown or side button.
AirPods: Put your AirPods in their case and close the lid or click Stop in Find My.
Beats product: Depending on the model of your Beats product, you can put it in its case and close the lid, or press the power button. You can also click Stop in Find My.
Get directions to a device
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Devices.
In the Devices list, select the device you want to get directions to, then click the Info button on the map.
Click Directions.
Note: You can also Control-click the device in the Devices list, then choose Directions.
The Maps app opens with the directions from your location to the device’s current location. See Get directions in Maps.
Tip: You can help a friend find their devices by going to iCloud.com so they can sign in to their iCloud account on your Mac. In the People list, select yourself, then click the Info button on the map. At the bottom, click “Help a friend,” click “Use a different Apple ID,” then let your friend sign in.
