Before You Begin

Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Remove the following part before you begin:

Tools

  1. Torque driver (gray, 0.55 kgf cm) (923-00738)

  2. Torque driver (green, 0.45 kgf cm) (923-00105)

  3. Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm) (923-02995)

  4. JCIS bit for fixed driver (923-0246)

  5. Micro stix bit (923-01290)

  6. JCIS bit for adjustable torque driver (923-09177)

  7. ESD-safe tweezers

  8. Nylon probe (black stick) (922-5065)

    • Nitrile or lint-free gloves

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Caution

Avoid touching the camera lenses, TrueDepth camera grounding springs, or nearby parts.

Important

If you replace this part, it’s recommended to run Repair Assistant to finish the repair. Repair Assistant will be available on the device after you’ve completed all reassembly steps.

Removal

Important

Putting on the gloves and covering the camera lenses is recommended to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  1. Use a torque driver and the JCIS bit to remove the three crosshead screws (2) from the TrueDepth camera cowling. Set aside the screws.

  2. Use a torque driver and the Micro stix bit to remove the trilobe screw (1) from the TrueDepth camera cowling. Remove the cowling and save it for reassembly.Set aside the screw.

  3. Use the adjustable torque driver and the adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to remove the three crosshead screws from the camera. Set aside the screws.

    • Caution: Avoid touching the camera lenses.

  4. Lift the ends of the three flex cables from the connectors. Do not lift the camera by the flex cables. The camera is now removed.

Reassembly

Important

A protective cover is included with a replacement camera. Leave the cover on while installing the new camera. Remove it before closing the back glass.

  1. Put on the gloves to prevent contamination of the camera lenses.

  2. Inspect the grounding springs on the camera for damage before reassembly. Ensure that the grounding springs aren’t bent or broken.

    • Important: If the grounding springs are broken or bent, you may need to replace the camera.

  3. Position the camera in the enclosure.

  4. Press the ends of the two camera flex cables to the connectors.

  5. Press the end of the button flex cable to the connector.

  6. Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 16 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and adjustable torque driver JCIS bit to install the following three new crosshead screws into the camera:

    • 923-11180 (1)

    • 923-11177 (2)

    • 923-11200 (3)

  7. Reinstall the TrueDepth camera cowling. Use the gray torque driver and fixed driver JCIS bit to install the following three new crosshead screws into the TrueDepth camera cowling:

    • One crosshead screw (923-11181) (1)

    • Two crosshead screws (923-11198) (2)

  8. Use the green torque driver and Micro stix bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-11192) (3) into the cowling.

Reinstall the following part to complete reassembly:

Important

  • Remove the protective cover from the replacement camera before you reinstall the back glass.

  • After you’ve completed all reassembly steps, Repair Assistant will be available on the device and is recommended to finish the repair. Learn how to initiate Repair Assistant.
