Mac mini (2024) SSD Module

Before You Begin

Remove the following parts before you begin:

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (0.3–1.2 Nm)

  • Compressed air

  • Torx Plus 8IP 89 mm bit

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Caution

If you replace the SSD module, you’ll need a separate Mac running the latest version of macOS or a separate Mac with Apple Configurator installed to restore the Mac.

Removal

  1. Use the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to remove the 8IP screw (923-12071) from the SSD module.

  2. Pull the SSD module straight out of the SSD module connector on the logic board as shown.

    • Caution: Don't tilt the SSD module when removing it from the connector. A damaged connector requires a logic board replacement.

  3. Tilt up the end of SSD module just enough to clear the screw standoff as shown. Then remove the SSD module from the housing.

    • Caution: To avoid damaging the SSD module connector, ensure that the SSD module is fully removed from the connector before tilting up the SSD module. A damaged connector requires a logic board replacement.

Reassembly

  1. Use compressed air to remove any debris from the SSD module connector.

  2. Lower the SSD module into the housing at the angle shown so the SSD module clears the screw standoff.

    • Caution: To avoid damaging the SSD module connector, don't insert the SSD module into the connector at this angle. A damaged connector requires a logic board replacement.

  3. Position the SSD module flat on the logic board. Then insert the SSD module into the SSD module connector on the logic board.

  4. Set the torque value on the 0.3–1.2 Nm adjustable torque driver to 0.65 Nm.

  5. Use the adjustable torque driver and 8IP bit to reinstall the 8IP screw (923-12071) into the SSD module.

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:

Repair Completion:

Caution

If you replaced the SSD modules, the computer won’t start up and the status indicator light will flash amber. Follow the instructions to restore the Mac.
