Task with elapsed duration in a critical path with red bar.
I want to present in Gantt chart a task with elapsed duration in a critical path as a red bar like a task of ocean freight. How should I set up the Project to present it as I would like to show?
Mgdias,
Perhaps a screen shot of your plan would help us understand your issue.
Here is a simple two task plan, one with an elapsed duration and one with working time duration. Note, both show as red (i.e. critical). Did you check the option in Bar Styles to show Critical Tasks?

There is no way to force Microsoft Project to display a task as a Critical task. Instead, the software automatically calculates the Total Slack for every task in the project and then uses that Total Slack value to designate Critical and Non-Critical tasks. If a task has a Total Slack value of 0 days, it is a Critical task; if it has a Total Slack value of greater than 0 days, it is a Non-Critical task.
To make sure that the software shows a valid Critical Path, it is important that you link every detailed task with at least one Predecessor and at least one Successor. Have you done this with every task, including the task with an elapsed Duration value? If you HAVE done this, you can display the Critical Path in the regular Gantt Chart view by displaying the Gantt Chart Format ribbon and by selecting the Critical Tasks checkbox in the middle of the ribbon. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,
First of all may thanks for your quick comment. I think my request in the forum is misintepreted , let me correvt my miscommunication. In some project you might have a task already calculate as critical path (total slack zero) however this task has duration as elapsed duration, as an example of ocean freigth. Project does not dispaly this task in the Gantt chart as red bar although the other tasks without elapsed duration are shown as red bar. The question is how should Project be set up presenting all tasks (regardless the type of duration) as red bar in the critical path on the Gantt chart?
