I am trying to log into Outlook and Teams on my iphone. When I try to enter in Username & PW, I get forced to open authenticator app, which asks for the same log in details I try to enter into Teams and Outlook, then it asks me to enter an authenticator app code which I cannot access as the current window prevents it from opening. I go back and have to start the whole process again. I just seem to go around in circles and end up in the same spot. i am the admin for the account , so i am unable to reset anything.107Views0likes2CommentsMicrosoft Authenticator Passkeys for Entra ID on unmanaged devices
Hello, has anyone successfully registered passkeys on an unmanaged phone in an organisation with device compliance policies? Use case is to provide a phishing-resistant MFA option via Authenticator app for logging into apps on their desktop. Users already have authenticator app on their phone and do number matching MFA. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/authentication/how-to-register-passkey-authenticator?tabs=iOS When I select "Create a passkey" - I need to log into my account. However I'm blocked from successful authentication because I have conditional access policies to require compliant devices. As my mobile phone is not enrolled into Intune, I never get to the step where the passkey is created and registered. Based on the constraints - it seems like passkeys cannot be used for unmanaged/BYOD devices for organisations that have device compliance policies. It can only be used for users who have enrolled their mobile phone. Looking to see if anyone has tips or different experience using passkeys on unmanaged mobile phones to log into Entra?30Views0likes0Commentsfailed set-up of a passkey for a personal MS account
After scanning the QR code (on the PC screen) in the Authenticator app on the Iphone, the error message “Error adding the passkey - Microsoft Authenticator does not support this passkey” (translated from German) appears. What does this mean ? How to prevent? Any help is appreciated.227Views1like2CommentsAuthenticator Reset
I cannot log into my Office365 account. I'm not even sure what I have its been so long. I run a small business and set up the account myself. I did not have the authenticator backed up so when I lost my phone, i lost all of the authenticator accounts. Now I cannot log in due to not having the authenticator. I've been hung up on 3 times by microsoft support. How can I get the authenticator reset? I need to install the apps on a new machine. I can't even cancel the account because in order to do anything you have to log in.....which I can't do.35Views0likes1CommentAuthenticator backup use company account
Just switched phones yesterday and discovered my Authenticator app backs up using a personal Microsoft account instead of my business account. If MFA is required by a business, shouldn't Authenticator be backed up using business accounts? In my opinion, there should be a way to keep business and personal MFA separate within a single app. Outlook does this with my business and personal email accounts...4.3KViews0likes7CommentsAuthenticator app not working on new phone - old phone with app is gone
Hello Tech Community, I have trouble with my email (hotmail) account. About 12 months ago I downloaded and activated the authenticator app after having hackers trying to enter my hotmail account. A few months ago I changed my phone and I have never been asked for second factor authentication until today (so I did not pay much attention to it as I could see it. The phone number attached is old and have no access to it and that device is long gone too). BIG PROBLEM! I have the app on my new phone but it is not linked to my account (and cannot do a Cloud Recovery). If I try to do anything with my account (forward emails or change anything) it asks me for the authenticator approval/code (that I do not have access to). I am scared about doing something that will log me out of my email (which I still have access to) but cannot make any changes nor log out. Please help. Can I deactivate the authenticator app somehow? or re-set it-up to work again? Can I migrate all my emails to a new account so I do not lose years of information if I get logged out? Can I set the forwarding emails option without having to pass by second facto authentication? Looking forward to hearing from you wise community, Thank you21KViews0likes7CommentsMicrosoft Authenticator on iPhone - ability to backup to locations other than iCloud
Our company has policy settings in place which restricts the ability of our iPhone/iPad fleet to backup content to iCloud. Unfortunately this also prevents the backup of Microsoft Authenticator configurations. It would be great if Microsoft Authenticator was able to backup its config to an alternative cloud storage location such as OneDrive.296Views0likes2CommentsChallenges with New MFA and SSPR Policies: Need Guidance
I am currently transitioning our Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to the new Authentication Methods policy, moving away from legacy policies. However, the lack of clarity on which methods are compatible with both scenarios is quite frustrating, and I wonder if I might be missing something. Our goal is to exclusively use the Authenticator app and security keys for both MFA and SSPR, eliminating all other methods. Additionally, we want to maintain the requirement of two methods (Authenticator app and security key) for password changes. We are in the process of distributing security keys to all staff. The issue I’m encountering is that while Microsoft promotes this new portal as a unified solution for both MFA and SSPR, not all methods are supported across both. Specifically, the security key does not currently work for SSPR. If I am unable to use the security key for SSPR and must resort to a less secure second method, I would at least like to disable that less secure method for MFA. However, it seems there is no way to configure this in the policy. Am I on the right track here? I am aware that Authentication Strengths can be configured—perhaps this is where I should focus? Any advice or discussion would be greatly appreciated.223Views0likes2CommentsNumber Challenge for MFA - Accessibility Issues
Hello With the shift away from passwords, I recently started using the Microsoft Authenticator app for my Microsoft-related logins (Windows, Office, Teams, etc) but immediately ran into accessibility problems. I am a visually impaired user and use a screen reader. When signing in, if I am prompted with the number challenge verification I cannot complete it. There are many accessibility problems with this challenge. 1. The number only displays briefly in an animation that cannot be paused or stopped 2. The number animation cannot be accessed via screen readers (at least NVDA, JAWS, and Narrator, those are the ones I've tried) 3. The challenge only gives the user 30 seconds to complete with no way to extend, configure, or disable that timer. It's important that all users have access to this security functionality, so I hope to see the accessibility improved.Solved3.6KViews0likes4CommentsManaging Multiple M365 Administrator Accounts with Microsoft Authenticator Backup
Hello Tech Community, I am looking for some advice on how to efficiently manage and back up multiple M365 Administrator accounts using the Microsoft Authenticator app. As an IT Support professional working with multiple clients, I have a dedicated Global Administrator account for each client, and all accounts are secured with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using Microsoft Authenticator. Setting up each Global Admin account with the Authenticator app is fairly straightforward, but I’ve run into an issue when trying to transfer these accounts to a new smartphone. While the Microsoft Authenticator app does transfer accounts to the new device, it seems that MFA will no longer work unless you scan a new QR code for each account. However, logging into these Global Admin accounts to obtain the new QR code is not feasible since MFA is required, creating a bit of a catch-22. I’d prefer not to resort to other authentication methods (SMS, email, etc.) for these Global Admin accounts, as it adds unnecessary complexity and potential vulnerabilities. Has anyone found a reliable solution for seamlessly backing up and transferring these MFA-enabled Global Admin accounts to a new phone without needing to re-authenticate via QR code? Any insights or best practices would be greatly appreciated!Solved545Views0likes5Comments
