Re: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
The need to run both was due to the loss of access to my Outlook.com email account through the Outlook 2013 - it ceased to log in and I could not find any way to get an App Password or other credentials to allow me access, hence the need to use the New Outlook. If there is a way to regain this access I would be very appreciative. Correct. Outlook 2013 does not support oAuth2 and Microsoft now requires it to connect. Email does not support app passwords but they are available for other apps, like xbox that does not support oauth. (Need to enable 2FA to create them). I have been trying, without success, to rewrite application to see the New Outlook but that application does not appear in the Registry nor in the Programs and Features list though it does appear in the Task Manager Task list. Some forum posts say that the New Outlook is not discoverable and does not have an API - is that true? True - new Outlook can't be automated. The New Outlook places an advertisement in the Outlook inbox so that even if there is no real email in there it shows that there is an unread email, which is not fair and is a waste of time on a massive scale over the user base. Apparently, none of the other non-Microsoft accounts do this, for which I am grateful. If you have a subscription and the Microsoft account is set as the primary account, there are no ads. From what I understand, if no subscription, all accounts should have ads at the top of the inbox. Tip: if you use Focused inbox, the ads are only shown on the Other tab. The ability to open .PST files does not appear to be a functionality of the New Outlook. If I am wrong, please point me to that functionality. It's in new Outlook now but the PST files ae read-only at this time. Look in Settings > General > Outlook Data Files - but it appears to only be listed in my Outlook when a Microsoft mailbox is set as default.1View0likes0CommentsRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
New Outlook is a resource hog? Do you have an ARM processor? If you have an office license, you can use classic Outlook. You can turn off browser hijacking if you are using classic Outlook - it's an option in file > Options > Advanced. Links in Outlook open in a sidebar in Edge If classic Outlook is missing: You can't open classic Outlook on a new Windows PC100Views0likes0CommentsRe: I need to return to my classic Outlook. Have you tried repairing the office install? Or opening outlook.exe from the file system - Outlook is here if you use 64-bit office "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE" if you use 32-bit Office, it is here -"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE"1.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: outlook for Mac issue
Are they Microsoft 365 business mailboxes? You either need a software subscription (most common) or the mailboxes are the cheap ones that do not include Outlook client support, only web mail. I have more information in this article - "This account is not supported in Outlook" error message You can use either a personal or business subscription - the one-time purchase office suites do not enable client rights for business mailboxes. The free version in the Mac store also does not include a license for business accounts.14Views0likes0CommentsRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
While I recommend trying other email apps - Thunderbird or eM client are my recommendations but there are others - you could try the steps here:How do you permanently turn off new outlook? - Microsoft Community to go back to windows mail. But note: Mail will be removed from the Microsoft store and once it is gone, you won't be able to repair or reinstall it.181Views1like0CommentsRe: New Outlook - Imported csv Contacts 'half' Showing
Are you using the new Outlook app or classic Outlook on a new computer? If classic Outlook - that usually means the addresses need to be resolved. Try this: open one contact and click in the address field. Press Ctrl+K or click the resolve button on the ribbon. Save and close the contact. Now click the To button - do you see the address? If yes, the addresses need to be resolved. If you have a lot, I have a macro that can do it -Imported Addresses are Missing from Address Book (I'll convert that to a PowerShell version but won't be able to do it today.)16Views0likes1CommentRe: I need to return to my classic Outlook. Some pdf file from my spam email i believe, on of the file was named caseAMAZON(numbers)[4665]. pdf I don't know what this is all about. Did i open a door for malware to enter my pc just by retrograding to the old mail app. or did they let those spam email attachment breach in after I send some spicy feedback. Based on the file name, it's just run-of-the-mill virus-infected spam attachment. That it came after you sent spicy feedback is just a coincidence.1.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: New Outlook - Messages stay "unread" even after double click
That is how it worked for me when posted earlier - opening or using the reading pane is not marked as read when the option is set to not mark as read. You'll need to manually mark it - either click the bar on the left or right click and choose mark as read to mark read. Or change the mark as read options to mark after 5 seconds (or one of the other options). I don't know if it is a bug or by design that opening a message in new Outlook or outlook web will as mark as read, but will ask support.17Views0likes0CommentsRe: How contacts are supposed to work in the Outlook web app
Add to contacts is shown when the contact is not in your contacts folder - usually from the recipient cache AKA autocomplete list (or if you previously used Outlook customer manager - the custom list still exists hidden in the mailbox). I also see it on some contacts moved into that mailbox from a different account or that I added on my cell phone but it's possible they are in the autocomplete list and is showing that entry. Outlook on the web hides duplicates, so you might only see 1 - the autocomplete entry. New Outlook app and classic Outlook only show the contacts in the folder. FWIW, you'll see similar weirdness in classic Outlook when you Search people. If the entry has Add to contacts, it's from the autocomplete cache. Contact lists is for contact groups / DLs. The web separates them from contacts.15Views0likes0CommentsRe: New Outlook - Messages stay "unread" even after double click
You need to set the last option - "Don't automatically mark items as read" The"normal" or "expected" behavior when opening a message in a new window (or replying) is to mark it read but in new Outlook opening in a new window does not mark as read, only replying will when it's set to "Don't automatically mark items as read".81Views0likes4CommentsRe: Outlook - Want both POP & IMAP account for same address
Correct, that changed several years ago with the introduction of Outlook 2013. I have found one way to trick it, but only if you have two aliases on the account. Add the account then change the From address to the second alias. Add the account again. I have not tried changing the From address on the first account back to the original -I did it to add aniCloud+ custom alias to Outlook along with myiCloud address. The stepsI used are in this article: Adding iCloud+ Custom domains to Outlook (slipstick.com)1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Print a List of Outlook Mail Folders

Is that how many messages you have in your All Mail folder? Do any of the messages in your All Mail folder have labels? If you do not have a folder named Archive, the All Mail folder is synced to Archive - but only messages that don't have labels. The Archive folder - with the file drawer icon - is used with the backspace key to file mail with one click in a folder that is not named Deleted Items. (Yes, people did that.) If you use zero inbox with gmail and Archive mail in Gmail (which removes all labels) - it will sync to the Archive folder in new outlook. Messages with labels won't sync - this would create duplicates and increase the storage size in the Microsoft cloud. If you use classic Outlook and set an Archive folder, that should be used for the Archive feature (but I need to test it more with new Outlook, especially with a folder not named Archive and after the unlabeled all mail messages already synced.)1.7KViews1like0Comments
