Albania’s trade deficit widened to ALL 46 billion in October 2024, up from ALL 41.5 billion in the same month of the previous year. Exports plunged by 15.2% year-on-year to ALL 31 billion, weighed down by lower sales in construction materials and metals (contributing -8.2 percentage points), textiles and footwear (-3.5 percentage points), and minerals, fuels, and electricity (-2.9 percentage points). Notable declines in exports were seen to Kosovo (-24%), Italy (-13.6%), and Spain (-4.7%). Meanwhile, imports fell by a softer 1.5% to ALL 77 billion, mainly due to decreased purchases of construction materials and metals (-3.3 percentage points), minerals, fuels, and electricity (-1.0 percentage points), and textiles and footwear (-0.8 percentage points). Imports from North Macedonia (-17.6%) and Italy (-3.4%) also saw significant drops. From January to October, the trade deficit widened to ALL 426 billion from ALL 358 billion in the same period last year.

Albania's trade deficit grew to ALL 40.3 billion in September 2024 from ALL 39.7 billion in the same month of the previous year, as exports fell faster than imports. Exports plunged by 8.5% year-on-year to ALL 31 billion, mainly due to a drop in sales of textile & footwear (-17.2%), mineral, fuels, electricity (-12.5% ), and construction materials & metals (-4.1%). Shipments declined to Italy (-22.4%), Kosovo (-40%), and Turkey (-34.2%). Meanwhile, imports decreased by a softer 3.1% to ALL 71 billion, primarily due to lower purchases of minerals, fuels, electricity (-10.7% ), textile & footwear (-8.1%), and construction materials & metals (-5.2%). Among main trading partners, arrivals went down from Italy (-9.3%), Austria (-47.4%) and Switzerland (-20.2%). In January-September 2024, Albania's trade deficit surged to ALL 380 billion from ALL 317 billion in the corresponding period of 2023.
