Manufacturing sales in Canada likely rose 0.5% month-over-month in November 2024, following a 2.1% rise in October, preliminary estimates showed. The largest increases were in the petroleum and coal product, wood product as well as primary metal subsectors.

Canada Manufacturing Sales Revised Higher
Manufacturing sales in Canada rose 2.1% month-over-month in October 2024, the first rise in three months, and better than 1.3% in the initial estimate. The main drivers of the gain were sales of petroleum and coal products (+15.9%) and transportation equipment (+3.7%, the largest month-over-month increase since May 2023). Also, sales of motor vehicles reached their highest level since April 2024, rising 5.5%. On the other hand, sales of paper (-3.5%) posted the largest decline. Despite the month-over-month increase in October, sales were down 0.2% on a year-over-year basis. Manufacturing sales increased in seven provinces in October, led by Ontario (+1.6%). Sales in Newfoundland and Labrador (-25.7%) declined the most.
